Socialised medicine fails miserably in postage stamp-sized Singapore, so I give it a no-no.

It's a nice concept, like buying everyone a house. Unfortunately, both of these have the problem of being un-affordable. I vote "Nyet!"

` ` ` ` -----The NY Times reports February 21st that -----Seattle is "Staring Into the Mouth of the -----Trade Deficit." ` -----In Seattle, Boeing "has laid off 26,200 -----people in the last three years....." ` -----So now:
--------Seattle business and community leaders --------see an obvious answer to some of the --------trade problems just a hundred miles or --------so to the north, in Canada, where trade --------losses are less immediately catastrophic --------because of stronger national health and --------pension programs that protect workers --------while they search for new jobs. ` ` ` `

The reason Boeing is looking at Canada is that the government-run health system frees Boeing of the immediate expense of employee insurance. Same with the pension- if the government does it, the company doesn't have to. Thus, this potential move has little to do with the quality of health care for its employees. However, the high tax rate and level of regulation bode ill for the company. The keyword here is "less immediately catastrophic"- it's a short-sighted measure. As to how this relates to the trade deficit, it really doesn't. Most economists from Adam Smith onwards will tell you that trade is a very good thing. Only Mercantilism, in its modern iteration (primarily expressed by the likes of Pat Buchanon and anti-WTO protestors) believes it is bad. For a thorough refutation of mercantilistic thought, read Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. Boeing's job losses have more to do with the poor performance of airlines (and thus a lack of new orders for their primary product) and the loss of their one-time dominance of the market-thanks to new competitors, such as Airbus Industrie. Furthermore, Boeing just recently lost the huge contract for the Joint Strike Fighter to its main competitor, Lockheed-Martin. Tough times are ahead for the company.

Alright Mr. "unisigned", WHAT the blue hell do you think you're doing? If you don't stop posting in only online newspaper articles, harsh punishment will be exacted and you will be forced to terminate your account. This is your first warning.

Lim, lim, lim. is this now part of cosbi's beliefs? If you are against the norm you are auto-removed? ARnt we all alittle different from the norm ourselves? Why should we remove one of our own..just because it does things a little differently.
Hmmm...Ye should think about such things. or not...tis ur board *shrugs*

No no, Mr. Mena, I'm afraid you don't understand. Firstly, I created these forums for us, so I set the rule. Kevin Melody did not create Cardinal-On-Line. Second of all, we gave him ample warning, and he still refuses to even identify himself. Thirdly, he's not only aggravating me, he's aggravating both Overlords and both Grand Arbiters. He has used up all his warnings.
