What at this current time is more important to the US and/or the world? A return to the moon would be wise, any Mars mission will need to be done after some time on the moon, time on the moon will give us practicle knowledge on functioning outside the earths grasp. But do we or can we get there and build this this. (Yeah, we can get there, but can we get what we need there to build) How about a return to the Saturn V? Any ideas? Whats the thoughts of WJU's most evil minds have to say?

Im not sure about the saturn v but there are a lot of advantages to a space program, increased technology research and the like is always helpfull.

It was a good workhorse, but I have heard nothing about it or if they could re-use something like it to get things back to the moon. I agree, much good has come from our movement toward space.

I think building a moon base would make sense for the U.S. to do. It would help us and the world to explore the universe more in depth. The U.S. should definitely do it.

Well, I think it's a strategic imperative to return to the moon as quickly as possible. The reason for this is the large deposits of Helium-3 on its surface. He3 would be a potent source of fuel for Nuclear Fusion. Fusion, in turn, is a vastly more efficient (and less risky) form of power generation that will likely be used as the primary source of energy in the future. Control of He3 is then essential to control of the world's fuel supply. The urgency comes in because the Chinese have declared their intention to create a lunar colony to mine this stuff. If they get control, they'll be the super-power for the 21st century.

Not after the bombing they won't... I mean, I'm not a Nazi! At any rate, we need to return to the moon, we know very little about it considering we've been there in person. A return just to see how it works would be nice. But we can't let those sneeky Chinese beat us there, we're America damnit, we kick ass.

well, i think the moon should just be left alone. It should be the one thing that humanity doesnt completly screw up on.... and besides, it gives the people who have to lie through the nuclear winters something pretty to look at after near global destruction. ;D

Yes, but the moon could be a much needed resource as the admiral pointed out.

The way I see it, somebody's gonna colonise the moon eventually. Might as well be us. It's a very pretty place to go.

Building a moon base would also let us explore the moon and maybe one day Mars for resources that have not been discovered yet as well.

Indeed- and if we really screw up on this planet, we won't have all our eggs in one basket, so to speak.

That reminds me a bit to much of the C.S. Lewis series begning with Out of the Silent Planet. Always pushing forward, we must think about if we should.

Miller do you have a opinion of your own, or do you always agree with everyone else? Anyway, both* of you have a good point. And while humanity does have the nasty tendancy to really screw things up(ie, cardinal online) the moon is far enough away I think that we can get away with going there with out major damage... Yet...
